What is SCOOP OF THE YEAR about?
Martin, a hapless journalist on a weekly financial magazine, sees his life take
a nosedive with the arrival of Tom de Lacy, a well-heeled reporter who grabs
the limelight, not to mention the well-paid industrial correspondent’s job that
he has his eye on.
He does his level best to sabotage Tom’s career, only to see his rival land a
plum job in television.
But watching his rival’s success while his life disintegrates makes Martin a
desperate fellow. Falling on hard times can be murder, and in certain
circumstances could even give rise to it.
So when Martin gets a scoop on a major corporate scandal, he just has to
grab the opportunity with both hands. He sees it as not only his turn to shine,
but his duty.
“For a British journalist, maintaining a career and financial stability can
be murder—and may even call for it—in this thriller… A smartly
restrained and persistently witty crime tale even at its grimmest”
– Kirkus Reviews
“Very witty thriller with a wonderful ending that I didn't see coming and
wager you won't, either. The protagonist, a journalist, is somewhat
compromised but you'll root for him anyway… I thoroughly enjoyed
Scoop of the Year” – The Bookbag
My first thriller, HIDER/SEEKER, was published in 2015 and broke into the top
100 of all ebooks in Kindle Store on both sides of the Atlantic. It’s about Harry
Bridger, a maverick who helps a woman disappear from her violent husband
only to discover that his life depends on finding her again.
“The hits just keep on coming (often literally) in Claver’s auspicious British crime thriller… it’s an engaging read that manages some surprises amid all the familiar genre tropes. The scenes of physical menace, in particular, are all the more effective in Claver’s elliptical style… A novel about a finder that’s a real find.” – Kirkus Reviews
“I rather enjoyed this twisting, turning thriller. The plot fills the pages extremely well and while it's easy enough to keep up with, it's complex enough to keep you guessing…The best plot twist is kept until last and the signals for it are subtle. Always a sign of success in a thriller!” – The Bookbag
“Good storyline with an easy to follow set of characters, which made the story more compelling. Simple premise, easy writing style and fast paced. Enjoyable thriller.” – MetLineReader
“There are books that bore me, books that capture my attention and I enjoy reading, and occasionally I come across a book that draws me in so deeply that I can think of little else. This book is from the latter category. I highly recommend this one if you like twisting, exciting plots.” – A NetGalley reviewer
